– OK, I read your bio but I still have one more question to ask. Who exactly is Jon Jon Lannen?

“Wow! We’re getting right into it, aren’t we? I dig it. Jon Jon Lannen is me! I currently live in Denver humbly doing what I love: writing, teaching and performing improvisational theater.

– How did you decide to pursue a writing career?

“Since I was young, I’ve always loved writing. I decided there was a need in the book industry for a children’s book about improv comedy. I was an improviser for as long as I can remember; I just didn’t know what it was called yet. The Giraffe That Taught Me How To Laugh is the book I wish I had as a kiddo!”

– Was getting published hard?

“Yes and no. The publishing world is a fierce industry. As long as you have the drive, know your resources and won’t take no as an answer, you will get your work published.”

– What genre is your book?

“The book is children’s literature, focusing on the performing arts. I’d also love it if readers would provide a review on Amazon to let others know how much you all love The Giraffe That Taught Me How To Laugh. Word of mouth help indie authors more than you know.”

– What are your current projects?

“My team and I recently launched our new home on the world wide web, jonjonandco.com. The Jon Jon & Co. site is the place to find out anything about me and upcoming projects.”

Jon_Jon_Chris_and_Kathie_J_on_Everyday

– What’s next for you?

“What’s next for me? Currently casting for season four of andCo, a Whose-Line-Is-It-Anyway style improvisation show. I am also wrapping up publication on my next book, The Giraffe and Cheetah Taught Me Theater. The book will be out nationwide at most major retailers in 2016.”

– Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview.

“Thank you for taking the time to sit with me. I really appreciate the support!”

Pastor_Bo1

-How did you decide to pursue a writing career?

“It was a gradual process, but I realized years ago that God had deposited so much in me to make a major contribution to this world. I know it will be a travesty and tragedy to die without emptying myself to make the difference and the impact I was created to in this world, but I also knew very strongly that there is no better way to make a sustained indelible impact than through books. Books will go to a faraway distance where I may not be able to go, books will go to places without electricity and technology, books will go behind iron, political, ideological, religious and cultural walls and curtains. Books does not need visa or passport. One of my friends just sent the books to Saipan and Guam.

– Are your characters based on people you know?

“My books are all non-fiction.”

– What genre are your books?

“Christian self-help and motivational.”

– Which of your books is your most favorite?

“I love them all, and it’s very difficult to pick one, that’s why I try to promote and market them equally, but if I absolutely have to pick one I will probably say “PRAYER, POWER & RESULTS!”

– Do you have a specific writing routine?

“I lock myself up in either my office or writing closet (yes I have a writing closet) and just write for hours on end, sometimes for days as long I’m getting the inspiration. I am working on just writing daily as a routine.”

– What are your current projects?

“I think my next book is probably called ‘From Potential To Destiny’. However, I have two other books I can publish this year which are probably 70-80% done. One is on leadership, the other is more general addressing just different life issues.”

What is next for you?

“My most pressing desire now is to take this message God has given me to every part of this country, on as many platform as possible, through every possible means and to every part of the world. In addition to serving as the pastor of Pastor of God’s Family Bible Church, I travel nationally and internationally.

I will be in Nigeria and Tanzania for three weeks b/w June 23rd and July 13 preaching in several churches.”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

  • Brittney, please tell us more about yourself?
“I’m a preschool teacher, with a passion for writing, love for animals, music, manga, and movies, especially old black and white classics and any Aflred Hitchcock movie. Rear Window being on of my favorites by him.”
  • How did you decide to pursue a writing career?
“Writing was something I’ve always been passionate about. I started my first story when I was twelve-years-old, and as I grew older, I realized that I wanted to publish my own stories. I wanted to write novels that stood out from your average cliches readers see nowadays.”
  • Was getting published hard?
“Currently, I’m published on a serialized literature website called Channillo. Anyone can sign up for it. However, I must admit, I was surprised when I received my acceptance mail! Channillo is a new website that launched March 30th. It’s doing quite well so far! I’m glad to be apart of it. “
  • Are your characters based on people you know?
” None of my characters on Nightmare Chronicles are based on people I know in real life. The characters were simply born through my vivid imagination. However, I do have another novel that I’m working on and the main character’s name is of someone I know in real life, but only their name, not personality, haha.”
  • What genre are your books?
“The majority of my book genres are paranormal, fantasy, dystopian, psychological thrillers, mysteries and with romance included. My current title on Channillo, Nightmare Chronicles, is a dark paranormal romance genre. I do have one particular story that I plan to work on in the future that is a psychological paranormal thriller. It may seem like a somewhat odd combination, but it’s something I believe readers would find interesting! “
  • Which of your books is your most favorite?
” To be honest, my favorite book is a series called, Hell Hounds. This is a story that I plan to publish traditionally once the edits are completed. This is also the series I mentioned above that I used a friend of mine name for the main character. This particular story is focused on anti-heroes, which I believe would be different in a way.”
  • Do you have a specific writing routine?
“Well, when writer’s block isn’t kicking my butt, haha, I normally don’t have a writing routine. I just start writing whenever I feel the need to write.”

f37xtz

“Currently, I’m just focused on getting the word out there about NIGHTMARE CHRONICLES. For anyone that is interested in reading it, you can subscribe to the series on Channillo. If you do happen to read this serial novel, please let me know what you think of it by contacting me on Twitter!”
  • What’s next for you?
“I have a few upcoming project, mostly Hell Hounds and possibly a story psychological romance thriller (or maybe another paranormal, haha.) I love that genre, most likely because I am quite fond of horror.

Let’s help ‘Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter’ by Jaqueline Kyle to get published

INTERVIEW

Jaqueline Kyle is a California girl, lover of cats, books and coffee. “If you think this is code for ‘introverted single cat lady,’ you’d be right,” she says laughing. Jaqueline has had a number of careers over the years, and whenever one was coming to a close, she would end up writing poetry, a book or a screenplay. Finally she figured out that writing was her true passion. Since then she has written three books under her own name and ghost written about 50 more.

HeadshotJKyleColor

Jaqueline Kyle has launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund the publication of her new book “Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter”.

“Writing this book has been enormously fun and I hope that you enjoy reading it, too” says Jaqueline. “I’ve decided to publish independently but need some help funding the last touches. The funds raised from this indiegogo campaign will be used to get the book properly illustrated and published (all writing is complete). Campaign ends May 6!”

IndieGogo Campaign
April 7 – May 6

– What genre is your book?
“It’s a new genre called Mashup. There are a few other famous out there like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” or “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.” It basically takes classic tales and introduces new supernatural elements into the story. My book is really based on Dickens “A Christmas Carol” and has about 50% new material. All of his main characters are there, just twisted slightly to make a new (more sinister) story.”

IndiegogoCover

“Scrooge knew he was dead. Of course he did. How could it be otherwise? Scrooge and he were partners for I don’t know how many years. While the darkness of ghouls and netherworld creatures had touched his life first, it had been Marley who was Scrooge’s most trusted comrade in combating these evil forces. The nature of their business set the two apart from the rest of the living world and as a result, the funeral was quite bereft of mourners, friends, or anyone not being paid in the execution of the death rites. Sometimes it did not seem fair to Scrooge that the apprenticed partner had fallen first, and he more often than not, on these sad occasions, found himself deep in his cups to forget.” !
‘Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter’

– How did you come up with the mash-up idea?
“There are a number of really creative books in the mash-up genre. A few have been made into movies, like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and the upcoming film, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.”

ScroogeArtSepia

– Why A Christmas Carol? What was inspiration?
“A few years ago I was wandering around the Dickens Fair that’s held at the Cow Palace in San Francisco every year. There’s a roaming play of A Christmas Carol through the streets of London with Marley’s ghost dragging chains and the Ghost of Christmas Future looking like Death. It’s creepy! It got my brain churning and now here we are!”

– Was getting published hard?
“The hardest thing about publishing is putting yourself out there. It’s really scary to open yourself up to that kind of rejection. (I did mention I’m an introvert, right?!)”

– Which of your books is your most favorite?
“My tastes are all over the place. For fiction I like sci-fi, fantasy, horror and mashups. Lately I’ve gotten into non-fiction and I really enjoyed “Creativity, Inc” by Edwin Catmull (CEO of Pixar). I drive Uber to make ends meet, so I always have a book to listen to in the car.“

ScroogeGhostHunterCover

– What authors influence your writing?
“Obviously, Charles Dickens is a huge influence in this book. I’d say that 50% of Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter is still comprised with his themes and prose. More recently, author Seth Grahame-Smith has really been the leader in the mash-up genre.”

– What are your current projects?
“I work with life coaches, speakers and personal development professionals to get their books ready for publication. It depends on the situation, but that might mean consulting, content editing or ghost writing.”

– If Scrooge read a personal development book, what would it be?
“Without a doubt, Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. Scrooge is in a real emotional crisis at the beginning of Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter. He could use some motivational reading.”

ScroogeGhostHunterCover-3D

“Marley was dead to begin with.”
“Scrooge had often said that Marley had more guts than brains, but now he had no bowels at all.”
Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter

– Do you have a specific writing routine?
“Absolutely. I have a whole morning routine. Once I finish that, I grab my laptop and head to the coffee shop. There’s something about that environment that is so distracting, I have to completely concentrate and block everything out to get anything done. That forced laser-like focus works for me.”

-What’s next for you?
“I have a couple ideas, but once I get going, I will forget to eat, I will forget to take a shower. I will certainly forget to promote Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter. I love writing, I will do it to the exclusion of all else, particularly things that make me uncomfortable – like self-promotion. (I’m so introverted it HURTS).”

Jaqueline Kyle might be introvert but she is such a talented author. And that was a fun interview, don’t you think?

‘Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter’ sounds a fantastic project, an interesting book that deserves to get published. So, let’s give a hand by clicking this link https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ebenezer-scrooge-ghost-hunter and help Ebenezer Scrooge to continue hunting ghosts!

The funds raised from this indiegogo campaign will be used to get the book properly illustrated and published (all writing is complete). Campaign ends May 6!

Richard Encarnacion and his journey to “The Secret Society”

INTERVIEW

Richard Encarnacion is a former U.S. Marine. He was extremely passionate about entertainment and books and now he’s about to release his debut novel.

This is his story…

247690_4428778635811_1972267891_n

“I wanted to be either a filmmaker/Marine or storyteller since I was a child, I began writing my first imaginary stories when I was still in my infant years. In school, my teacher in my first grade class had us write a book, and thus the journey began for me. The journey to work towards achieving my goals, it was a hard journey. Because Originally, I grew up in a Bad community.

I was originally born in the D.R. To a Puerto Rican father and a Dominican Mother, this was the very beginning. When I turned six, I grew up in the north/south side of Boston, MA. Then went to P.R. For one year and D.R. And finally grew up in North/ New Jersey, Paterson.

When I was growing up in U.S.A. In the early years, I was surrounded by negative people, and bad neighbor projects, it was a dangerous environment, gun shoots herd every night.

Even though my situation looked bleak, I always had a positive outlook in the world. And I began searching for opportunities, even in places, that they were few.

I began being influenced by the community I lived in, but even thought my positive mental attitude, attributed to my outlook on the future and making something better for myself. They were always obstacles.

How he decided to pursue a writing career

Like I mentioned earlier, my writing career began when I was a kid, but officially it began when I turned 16 years old, this was when I really began researching books, online sources and started writing as much as possible. I like the formation of stories, and the approach that other writers took to formulate a book. I also started writing screenplays this years, in these early years, it was extremely difficult for me to do this because of the fact that I had to write the story long hand that means hand written vs. type letter on a computer software. Because I didn’t have a computer at first, when I turned 17 was when I got my first computer.

So when I was sixteen years old, I had the idea for the secret society. I wrote the entire book then, and I forgot about the story for many years, some years later, I rewrote some of the chapters, and changed the characters’ names over the years, to try to fit the story better to the events. But also to make the story more science fiction. The story, has gone through seven different stages of development, because of the editing with the story.

The difference between this story, and other is that the process has been extensive, as I have gone from teenager to adult in development of this story, my writing has changed and the way in which I view the book as well.

Right now as I am speaking to you, the book has gone through about 19th editing or revision, if you wish to call it that. For the professional, writing community is called drafts. One concern, that I had was that the story was actually going to get worse, but overall the story has become better and clearer.

The story is about a teenager, who lives in New Jersey with his parents. John Edgeways, is a teenage electronics genius. In the story, John, discovers a secret society. But this society is nothing like the ones in real life, this story. It has fantasy, is about psychological effects of ideas, and how family dynamics can really affect people, it’s about conflict between older brother and younger brother. Father and mother and son and mother etc. But it also has that mystical element, because of the journey into unknown with sci-fi and fantasy.

But the main reason, that I wanted to write this book when I originally started, was for the pure fun of it. It became a 12-14 year journey, this was my first major story. So this story wasn’t written with a structure, some of the events, the story don’t logically follow a path, like most stories do. I think that’s why this story is more creative, than other stories in the market place. It’s a teenager fiction/ sci-fi story written for teens, and I wrote it when I was a teen. So I think, it will have some of the same perspective that a teen has.

The_Secret_Society

About getting published

I thought about the publishing process for an extensive period of time. I originally, wanted to publish my book with a traditional publisher like other writers in the market. J.K. Rowlings, like Stephen King and other writers, which I have enjoyed over the years. Although, because the story took me 12 years to get to the level of development, I couldn’t wait to publish it. Because it has already taken this story too much time to get made. So I decided to publish my book, as a self-published book. And I am using all the same techniques that major publishers use to get a book through the pipeline, I am getting it edited several times.

    The book has gone through 3 BETA reads.

    The book has also been edited 3 times.

    The book has had 19th Drafts.

    A custom book cover has been made for it.

    A custom marketing plan is made for it.

    A custom re-vision plan.

    So I feel comfortable that people are going to be able to read the book, although you never know if someone will like the story. I would just be happy that it is finally released.

About his characters and whether they’re based on people he knows

Some of the characters are based on people I know, I think the five main characters are based on people I know, for example.

For the Character of John, I had to use some of my personality and some of my brother because I would not normally do some of the things John would do, and my brother would not do some of the things I would.

For Mike, I tried to use my activities as a teen, but also utilized my brother social scene in high school.

For John’s mother I switched my father’s personality with my mother, and my mother’s personality with my father. To make the characters more interesting, and more alive I think.

What genre his book is

The book is sci-fi/fantasy, although I think it could have been any genre and the story would still feel the same, because the point of the story is not the genre. The story is about family, a secret society and a boy that happens to be good at electronics and gadgets. But I think, that even without the gadgets, the story stands on its own two feet.

Which book is his favorite

I really have like a library of books, I am really an avid reader, and I have read hundreds of books on every type of subject. But I like J.R. Tolkien books, J.K. Rowlings books, Stephen King, self-help books. I really enjoy reading, this type of fantasy books, comic books from marvel and DC comics, I mean I read almost everything.

Some of my friends in the story are also based out of other friends that I knew in real life, like their personality.

About his writing routine

I try to write every day, at least one page, but when I get a solid Idea in my head, I kind of become addicted to it. And I can’t stop writing, I used to hear the idea to write freehand. That means that if you get an idea, you should write and then re-write. But what I learned over the years, is that this step is used when you have an outline of a book in place, kind of like the skeleton of the story. Once, you have that you can write anything you want and it will make sense, because you need to make sure that you can at least understand, what is being said in each part of what your writing about.

So I would not recommend free writing, without having an outline, because then it could take a long period of time for your story to be ready for publication or even good enough to read.

What his current projects are and what’s next for him

The Secret Society is my current project, I want to get this book into the market place, and just promote it and see what happens. I really want to be able to get the book into the right hands. So that the readers, can comment on the story. This will either give me validation or burn me for promoting something of value, so seriously.

I also started a side business where, I want to help people in USA replace their bad habits. But also to give back to the community, by being able to influence people from different walks of life. To tell my story, being able to be a positive role model, for kids my age and communicate where I came from and my struggles and where I am heading. So I am really excited to get going on this journey.

My next project in writing would have to be another book, but this time. I think I will either have it made by a publisher or made into a cartoon, because I really want to focus on writing, and when your self-publishing or promoting a book, there are so many variables, that are taken into the equation, which you can forget if you are not paying close attention to them, I have an idea for a screenplay.

Although, I think I want to write one more book. Before, I get started writing screenplays again, I think that I just want to have a major body of work of fiction stories, kind of like Stephen King, where he has his own literary section in most book stores and libraries, I think I want something small like that. I am on a long journey to improve my writing, and make the most of my time here on earth lol. But on a serious note, I have hundreds of stories in my head, I am just waiting for solid ones to become serious irritators so that I can begin my process of fleshing it out and making them come alive.

He happens to work in the office of an 80s pop star and he’s put in charge of the star’s social networking. So he is able to play rock star on line and he starts to flirt with a fan. The fan is going through financial problems and is on the verge of losing her professional identity due to layoffs. She feels as though she has stumbled into an exciting new life. The rock star himself is going through a divorce. He has lost his identity as a husband and his identity as the hottest young star disappeared long ago. So identities change over the course of a life and depending on the context. In the context of this interview, I am the author of about 15 books with major and midsize publishers. Most are non-fiction. Identity Theft is my second novel and the first I have tried to publish on my own.”

– How did you decide to pursue a writing career?
“My father was an author and I came by it naturally. I actually wanted to be a rock star when I was younger, but was too lazy to learn to play the guitar properly. I studied to be an actress, (I have a degree in theater) but was no good at it. I then became a professional radio announcer for a while. I liked that job, but it was in the process of changing due to automation. A bit like the publishing world today. I burned out on that career. I found that writing was both the path of least resistance and the hardest career choice I could have made.”

– Was getting published hard?
“No. In fact, that part came quite easily. The first book proposal I sent out was picked up by a midsize publisher about a month later. So I was lucky on that score. What has been hard is keeping the work coming, and making a career out of it.”

– Are your characters based on people you know?
“I never base a character on someone I know including myself, although all of my characters have aspects of myself and observations I have made. I think it is a big mistake to write anything too autobiographical. You need enough distance to feel free to change what you need to in order to make the story more dramatic or get to where you need it to go.”

Cross-eyed Nerd Man

– What genre are your books?
“The majority of the books I have written are non-fiction in the humorous reference category. I have a whole series (with various publishers) that I call my “negative situations” books. These include “The Pocket Encyclopedia of Aggravation,” “Schadenfreude, Baby!” “The 100 Most Dangerous Things in Life and What You Can Do About Them,” “Broke is Beautiful” and “Don’t Screw It Up!” (I think I have an inordinate number of titles with exclamation points on them. Probably one is too many.) I have also written a children’s book “A Child’s Introduction to Ballet” and the novel “Angel”.”

– Which of your books is your most favorite?
“The two novels are my favorites. They are quite different in style and tone but I think both convey my voice, different aspects of my style. A reader described my signature as vivid use of words, wry humor and spot-on observations about humanity.”

– Do you have a specific writing routine?
“I write down my initial idea. Not an outline, but the basic notes of what I want to write, and then I have to go away and do something else before I can complete it. I often write down the structure of a particular article or scene I want to write, go to bed, and write the thing in the morning.”

– What are your current projects?
“I’ve just been hired to write a non-fiction book, so I am working on that. There is a biography I have been researching whenever I can find the time and resources. I’m always working on any number of things in the hopes that one of them will take off. “

  • What inspired you to write this book?

“I’ve always been a writer. However, I was inspired to start writing my book “An Amazing Mind” after losing my husband to suicide. I was motivated to support individuals in the world that are suffering with mental illness and don’t have the support and understanding they need.”

  • Was publishing hard?

“A good way to publish is by hiring a ghost writer or self publishing. Regardless to how you publish your book, the population that loves to read and collect books will always purchase hardcopy books. I personally like to read and purchase books as a hardcopy.”

David Tanager on writing “Night Siren” and dark, suspense stories

INTERVIEW

David Tanager studied International Relations in Warsaw and lived throughout Eastern Europe and the Balkans while serving as a military defense contractor. Outside of writing, his interests include mountaineering and wildlife photography. A few months ago, David Tanager published his first novel called “Night Siren”. I had the pleasure to have a little chat with David and here is what we talked about: David_Tanager

Are your characters based on people you know?

“The majority of the characters in my novel ‘Night Siren’, are not based off of real people. Long ago, I made a promise to friends and family that they could feel safe in knowing that they would not find themselves, nor their secrets being revealed in any Tanager novel.”

Do you have a specific writing routine?

“Typically I don’t start writing until after ten o’clock in the evening. I remember reading a quote once warning authors about how writing in the evening can produce dark, brooding or intense novels, but this is not the reason why I choose this hour to start. I like to go about my day, gather inspiration, watch the sunset with a cup of tea and only then do I feel ready to write.”

What are your current projects?

“I have just finished the editorial revision and adaptation of ‘Patrizio’, a short story taking place in post-war Italy. It is part of a larger project of seven short stories, which will be eventually become published as a collection in print form. I will be releasing two short stories from this series every year until the paperback release date in 2018. ‘Patrizio’ is currently only available in eBook form for the Kindle, and will be available for free on Monday, March 9th, through Tuesday March 10th.”

What is next for you?

“I am currently working on a novel to be released by October 2016. It is a horror/suspense novel heavily influenced by the writings of Dean Koontz – who is one of my favorite authors. The novel is still in the early stages, but I do have three chapters already completed and a fairly secure vision of the characters and plot. As with all of my novels it will include other characters from the ‘Tanager Universe’, and without giving too much away, will also set up a key figure in a post-apocalyptic novel I hope to work on after this novel’s release in 2016.” bookfinaldude
