The Challenge – Circle of Conspiracy, by Cas peace

REVIEW

‘The Challenge’ wasn’t the first Cas Peace book I’ve ever read but it is the first book in the Circle of Conspiracy trilogy with the later being a sub-series of Artesans Of Albia series books. And let me tell you, this series is getting better and better.

The writing was perfection and the story enchanting. I adored Brynne Sullyan’s character! I’d like her to be my best friend! Cas Peace is an excellent writer and story teller. Her writing is rich with description and imagination. It’s rare to find a book that has excellent writing, outstanding characters, AND a fabulous plot. Cas Peace’s books have all of them.

I can hardly wait to enjoy more books from this immensely talented author.

TheChallenge

Blurb:

Friend against friend, lover against lover, ally against ally. Conflict is coming …

Nine months have passed since Brynne Sullyan helped forge an alliance between the realms of Albia and Andaryon. A fragile peace reigns as both sides recover from the events of the previous year. Then mysterious raiders strike Andaryon villages. Attempts are made on the life of Albia’s High King. As Sullyan scrambles to find those responsible, unseen enemies threaten to pull apart everything she has worked for, including her marriage.

The alliance begins to crumble, and Sullyan finds herself caught between two monarchs: the king she’s sworn allegiance to, and the man she loves as a father. To betray either one would break her heart, but if conflict is inevitable, she must make a choice…

About Artesans of Albia Series

On a foolhardy foray into a foreign realm, Taran Elijah is attacked by a terrible weapon known as the Staff. Killing its wielder, he escapes into Albia, inadvertently carrying the Staff.

Concerned by the vicious raids that follow Taran’s actions, Major Sullyan of the High King’s forces crosses into Andaryon to seek diplomatic resolution to the crisis. She is captured and tortured by Lord Rykan, aspirant to the Andaryon throne.

Slowly dying, Sullyan escapes his clutches. She offers her skills to the Hierarch in defense of his throne, finally confronting Rykan on the field of battle.

Her handsome Captain and lover, Robin Tamsen, embarks on a desperate quest to recover the Staff. But Rykan’s greedy General, Sonten, is two steps ahead of him. If Robin cannot lay hold of the weapon before Sonten does, Sullyan’s life and the lives of all Artesans are forfeit.
The race for the Staff has begun.

Meet Donna Feyen and her amazing blog ‘More Than A Review’

REVIEW

I’m so excited to have a fellow blogger onboard today, Donna Feyen and her amazing blog site ‘More Than A Review’.
Donna is the host of WWW.MORETHANAREVIEW.COM where she reviews tons and tons of books! It’s a great resource for checking out those books you’ve been wondering about and deciding if they are worth the read! Or before you purchase!

More Than A Review (MTAR) founder, Donna Feyen, is an avid reader, a “stalker” (a.k.a. devoted fan) of popular band Third Day, and loves to scrapbook in both the traditional and digital styles using Creative Memories tools.  She loves Beth Moore bible studies, has worked at the same company for 27+ years, and loves to travel!  Some of her bucket list items include: visiting Hawaii, another trip to Germany (where her husband was born), and riding their motorcycle down interstate 1 in California.  Donna lives in Northwest Arkansas with her husband and her 3 beautiful black labs.

The best thing about reviewing is meeting authors both in person and online.  I have some great author friends that I would not have met without having More Than a Review.  I love attending book conventions and I am also looking for recommendations on which ones to attend.

Donna started MTAR after reading several books that fell short of their “traditional” reviews and included more graphic content than she was expecting to read.   These disappointments and the inability to research the content of a book before purchase, led Donna to the purpose and vision behind MTAR.

So Donna developed the science behind creating a website that would provide in-depth book reviews including a detailed “grading” system to provide readers upfront knowledge about the content of books they choose to read.MTAR allows anyone to write book reviews once they have registered via the MTAR homepage login screen.  Additionaly, there is a “report abuse” button that any reviewer may click if they identify someone who is abusing the privilege of posting a book review.

Alyson Grauer about self-publishing and The Isle Of Sound and Wonder

INTERVIEW

A few days ago I featured on my blog a great book, ‘On the Isle Of Sound and Wonder’ by Alyson Grauer, based on William Shakespeare’s classic, ‘The Tempest’.

However I wanted to get to know better author Alyson Grauer and today I have the pleasure to have an interview with her.

Alyson bio

– How did you decide to pursue a writing career?
I always wanted to tell stories when I was little, and was writing and illustrating books throughout elementary school. It just stuck with me! I journaled through middle and high school and in college promised myself that when I graduated I’d get back on the ball and keep writing seriously. And I did.

– Was getting published hard?
I would say yes and no. I submitted short stories to a number of online publications for several months (and was rejected repeatedly) before I found Xchyler Publishing’s anthology contests and got published there. It was challenging in that it is very overwhelming at first, but if you do some research on who publishes the types of things you write, and how they like their submissions, that can help narrow the field for you.

 – Are your characters based on people you know?
Sometimes I borrow the appearance or look of a person I know to help me picture a character better, but mostly the characters unfold themselves as they are. I try not to directly represent people I know as they are in real life, but I like to imagine them as actors performing the roles of my characters.

ontheislebigcover

– Which of your books is your most favourite?
Well, ON THE ISLE OF SOUND AND WONDER is my first novel, so I’d say that one. 🙂

– Do you have a specific writing routine?
Not a strict one. My writing ‘routine’ involves a lot of Pinterest and a lot of visual research. Sometimes I prepare a playlist of songs to listen to while I write. I drink a lot of tea, of course. And I sometimes take breaks to stretch or do sit ups.

– What’s next for you?
I’m doing something for NaNoWriMo this month but it’s a casual thing… I’m not competing heavily this year. Need the break. But we’ll see what comes of it. …I know that sounds mysterious.

BOOK BLAST

Today I’m very excited to feature a great book, ‘On the Isle Of Sound and Wonder’ by Alyson Grauer, based on William Shakespeare’s classic, ‘The Tempest’.

All but alone, wild but resourceful, Mira dreams of life beyond the shores of her mystical island. Isolated by her father, a dark sorcerer bent on vengeance, she has only his servants, an air spirit and a misshapen cast-off, to share her company.

When Dante conjures a terrible storm to wash ashore his mortal enemies, Mira must choose between her loyalties to her father and what she knows is right.

Connor, In the Company of Snipers Series

REVIEW

Heartache hurts so much worse than gunshot…
How many times can a man say he’s sorry?
Connor Maher is about to find out. As if dogging the brutal Sonoran Cartel through sun-baked Utah isn’t tough enough, he’s come face to face with his worst nightmare. Diminutive ex-Marine spitfire, Isabella Ramos, has just three words to say to him: I. Hate. You.

As soon as I read the blurb above I got so eager to read this book. Connor, #5 (In the Company of Snipers) by Irish Winters is taking place in the farthest corner of the relentless Utah desert were the main characters realise taht ”
There are worse things than death”.

The action starts on the first page and doesn’t let up till the last. I devoured it and wish it had gone on another hundred pages. I never go into details about the books I read because I’m afraid I’ll accidently tell something that only the reader should know and don’t want to blow their reading experience, but I will tell you that you will not be disappointed with this one.

B (2)

Irish Winters is an award-winning author who dabbles in poetry, grandchildren, and rarely (as in extremely rarely) the kitchen. More prone to be outdoors than in, she grew up the quintessential tomboy on a farm in rural Wisconsin, spent her teenage years in the Pacific Northwest, but calls the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah home. For now.

The wife of one handsome husband and the mother of three perfect sons, Irish divides her time between writing at home and travelling the country with her man while – writing. (Seriously, what else?)

She believes in making every day count for something and follows the wise admonition of her mother to, “Look out the window and see something!”

Ritoban Chakrabarti’s amazing trip to success through entrepreneurship and writing

Αταξινόμητα

Ritoban Chakrabarti is a full time Internet Marketer and a writer. He has loved the internet since he got his internet connection in 2005. Earlier, he used to just surf and chat and make friends in social networks. But, slowly he started developing websites for fun.

By some twisted change of fate, he somehow got a few people who wanted him to build/code their websites for them and were willing to pay him good money for doing so. So, he got involved in freelancing and used to charge a nominal amount for his work. He always overdelivered on his projects and got amazing reviews.

Naturally the netx step for him was to launch his own product on Joomla. He launched ReadyMadeJoomla. People started buying the product and affiliates started promoting it.

Ritoban Chakrabarti loves experimenting and discovering new techniques, but most of all he loves teaching others. He believes information should be free and that’s why he decided to created a blog to lay out everything he knows about Internet Marketing in it.

But that wasn’t enough for talented Mr Chakrabarti. He decided to pursue a writing carier and his first book When She Smiled will be launched on February.

DSC_0102

That’s a lot of information but yet I’d like to know more about who exactly is Ritoban Chakrabarti…

“It’s a really difficult question. I’ve never stopped to think who I am.

All I have ever known is to keep working towards the goals on my dream board and let my achievements define who I am. I started freelancing (making websites) in college which grew into a full time self-employment. Shortly thereafter, I opened my first company, which has had a brilliant run for the last five years.

I love travelling, singing, writing, and watching movies. All of which have had a direct impact on my goals. I’m also an avid believer in living a life of freedom.”

– How did you decide to pursue a writing career?

“About eight months ago, I picked up JD Salinger’s ‘Catcher in the Rye’ and read it in a few hours. It was a very simple story driven around one teenage guy and how a few days changed his perception about life.

We have all had such moments. I’ve had mine for sure. There was a story that needed to be written. After reading that book, I had an epiphany.

I reflected on the choices I made as a teenager and how they influenced my future. My novel is about a fifteen year old guy who had no clue how falling in love would forever change his life. ‘She’ is the girl he falls in love with. Her name is Akanksha. The entire story is set in Shimla, which is a beautiful hill station in India.”

 – Was getting published hard?

“I have decided not to approach publishers because they take a lot of time to review and approve manuscripts. If you approach them first, then they lay down the rules of royalty and distribution. I want them to approach me. How?

Today’s authors have an amazing bundle of services to get themselves self-published. There’s Createspace.com, that gets you published on Amazon.com (paperback) and Kindle. There’s Bookbaby.com, that gets you published on almost all major ebook marketplaces in the world. In India, which is my target market, there are several print-on-demand services which cost a bit extra, but are well worth it if you have a good distribution plan.”

 – Are your characters based on people you know?

“Yes and no. While most of the characters have personalities similar to people I know, like family and friends, but in the end it is a fictional story. Our brains come to understand people and their behaviour through the ones around us and that’s how I found inspiration for a lot of characters in the book.”

– What genre is your book?

“When She Smiled is basically a young adult novel and its a story about a teenage guy who, over the course of one year, discovers his destiny by falling in love and then out of it. If you had to categorise it in a genre, it would be ‘coming of age’. “

– Which of your books is your most favourite?

“JD Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye is my current favourite. Although this book is over 50 years old, I recently read it. This book gave me the courage and inspiration to go ahead and write my own novel. So it will always be close to my heart.”

– Do you have a specific writing routine?

“When She Smiled was written in several places. Some of it, I wrote when I visited my parents in Chandigarh, India. Some of it was written while I was vacationing in an island resort in Maldives all by myself. Most of it was written in Bangalore, India.

I rarely write at home. I have noticed that the best writing happens when I’m in a cafe or bar or coffee shop. There’s something about random strangers walking about that triggers the impulse to keep writing.

I rarely write at night, and my best writing happens when I’m on a hot streak and spitting out words like a waterfall. Believe it or not, I had a six hour continuous writing spree one day when I wrote ten thousand words in one sitting. It was fabulous.”

– What are your current projects?

“Apart from marketing the book, I’m also working on a few software projects for my company. I have to run a business after all. I’m making some killer softwares and online marketplaces, while also doing some internet marketing.”

– What’s next  for you?

“The book gets launched in February, so the next three months will mostly be dedicated to marketing the hell out of the book. After that I will be working on my first music album. Taking my bathroom singing to a whole new level. Recording, music video shoots, production, and marketing of the album should keep me busy next year.

I will also be working on my next novel shortly. A writer should always keep writing.”

Eight Birds for Christmas by Tara Mayoros

COVER REVEAL

Author Tara Mayoros has a brand new Christmas novella coming out soon, but with a cover this fantastic, it deserves a little bit of a celebration today!

As a child, Tara Mayoros moved to Asia with her family where her love of different cultures and travel began. In college she satisfied her wanderlust by moving to China, filling her head with countless stories, and occasionally writing them down.

Years, marriage, children and many adventures later, she picked up her dusty pen and paper (or laptop) and realized that writing took her to different worlds and gave her the experiences that she yearned for. As an author, artist, baker, music teacher, gardner, and nature lover – she sees the beauty in the process, and the miracle, of creation. The Rocky Mountains are her home and they call to her whenever she finds herself in need of inspiration.

I think it’s pretty amazing too.

Ashley Nixon was born and raised in Oklahoma, where the wind really does sweep down the plains, and horses and carriages aren’t used as much as she’d like. She has a Bachelor’s in English Writing and a Master’s in Library Science and Information Technology. When she’s not writing she’s either working out or pretending she’s Sherlock Holmes. Her obsession with writing began after reading the Lord of the Rings in the eighth grade. Since then, she’s loved everything Fantasy–resulting in an unhealthy obsession with the ‘geek’ tab on Pinterest, where all things awesome go.

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he studied mostly literature, psychology, philosophy, and film. After college, he moved to New York City and took a corporate consulting job that had absolutely nothing to do with his studies. The attacks of September 11, 2001 inspired him to write a novelette titled “The Doorman,” (http://tinyurl.com/TheDoormanAmazon) and heightened his interest in the Middle East. A decade later, that interest extended to the Syrian Civil war, which provided the backdrop for his latest work. In late 2013, Zack began releasing his unpublished works of fiction and became a full-time author. He has published comedy, psychological and philosophical fiction, and romance. Zack enjoys confining himself to one genre about as much as he likes trying to sum up his existence in one paragraph.

Bleeding Kansas by Dave Eisenstark

BOOK BLAST

When they came for him, he knew what he had to do…run!

Quaker farm-boy James Deeter escapes west ahead of Union Army recruiters, “aiming to look manly aboard my Appaloosa horse, long hair flying free from under a wide-brimmed, rawhide sombrero, a couple of six-shooters on my hips and a plains rifle dangling from a brass-tacked saddle.”

Instead, Deeter lands smack in the middle of the bloody guerilla war along the Kansas-Missouri border, an even greater affront to human decency than the Civil War itself, and a shock to Deeter’s pacifist upbringing.

To save his life, Deeter rides with rebel leaders William Quantrill, “Bloody Bill” Anderson, and the teen-aged James and Younger brothers.

To save his soul, he tries not to hurt anybody…

Which works for about a minute.

Can Deeter reconcile his peace-loving faith with his participation in some of the most violent episodes in American history?

Can he even survive?

His horse doesn’t think so.

Snippet

“This is ridiculous!” Bloody Bill repeated and he drew his pistol to reinforce the point. He aimed at Zeke.

“No!” I screamed.

“We ain’t takin’ anybody don’t have all their parts,” Bloody Bill stated.

“Now wait a minute,” George Shepherd, the one-eyed guerilla leader replied, taking offense, pulling his pistol.

“Aw, Shepherd, I didn’t mean you,” Bloody Bill said, the closest to an apology anybody ever heard Bloody Bill utter.

“Stop it, all of you!” Quantrill ordered. “Help the boy on his horse.”

A couple of guerillas saddled Zeke’s horse and pushed him on. He sat there, one foot in the stirrup, ready to ride.

“But if you fall off,” Quantrill said to Zeke, “we ain’t stopping to put you back on. You understand that?”

“Let’s ride to Lawrence,” Zeke replied and everyone went “shhh” again.

“Okay, let’s ride!” Quantrill ordered.

So we rode out, Quantrill in the lead, me right behind with that guerilla flag like it was a parade. Behind were the other guerilla leaders and their men. Bolten and Frank James flanked Zeke and when he started to slide off his saddle, they pushed him back on without Quantrill seeing it.

The Hansen dogs caught up with us after awhile and to my chagrin, they carried Zeke’s leg in their teeth.

“What’s that your dogs have got?” Quantrill inquired.

“Looks like a bone,” Jesse James said.

“Looks like a leg!” Bloody Bill shouted out. “Hey, Zeke! Ain’t that your leg?”

Zeke looked puzzled at the leg. Frank James and Bolten looked puzzled at me.

“You give Zeke’s leg to your dogs, Smith?” Frank asked, a little shocked.

“No! I buried it!” I shot back. “And said a little prayer and marked the grave.”

“Must of dug it up,” Bloody Bill said and started chuckling. In fact, everybody started laughing right then at my expense. I looked at Zeke, knowing he was hurt by his leg showing up like that because I hadn’t buried it deep enough. But Zeke was laughing too! Despite the fact he was pale as a sheet and looked ready to die, he thought the whole thing mighty funny. In fact, he laughed so hard, he fell right off his horse.

DAVE EISENSTARK BIO:

Dave Eisenstark has been writing professionally and working in the film industry in various capacities for more years than he actually remembers. Nine of his feature film scripts have been produced, including the award-winning comedy Monkey Love (starring Jeremy Renner) and the horror classic Creepozoids.

Like film producer George Lucas, Dave graduated with a degree from USC Cinema; unlike Mr. Lucas, everything else.

Dave’s first novel, The Video Killer, is probably vile, tasteless trash, but possibly amusing, and currently available from Spanking Pulp Press.

Dave was born in Kansas, grew up in Kansas, and received his BA in English Literature from the University of Kansas. His interest in the Missouri/Kansas border war stems from that early exposure.
